I have loved making these crochet daffodils (narcissus, for the correct botanical name) – I’ve used them on crochet floral wreaths to great effect. I have also made a few daffodil brooches, donating sales to the Marie Curie charity. They don’t use up a lot of yarn so great for stash-busting. They work very well in either acrylic or cotton but I recommend using 100% cotton for better stitch definition. I hope you enjoy making them – they certainly brighten up my day!
SKILL LEVEL
Advanced beginner – if you have experience of simple crochet flowers then this is a great crochet pattern to grade up to your next skill level.
MATERIALS NEEDED
I recommend using any type of DK weight yarn ideally in 100% cotton but this crochet pattern works equally well in acrylic. You can make this daffodil in a single colour such as yellow but narcissus come in many variations so have a look at some images to get the colour combination you desire. For this example pictured here I used these colours and used approximately 4m / 4.4yds of yarn in total:
- Col. A Yellow
- Col. B Light Orange
- Hook 3.5mm (US E/4)
- Tapestry needle
- Stainless steel dress making pins (optional)
- Spray starch (optional)
- Small brooch pin if making a brooch
TENSION
Not applicable for this crochet pattern.

FINISHING INSTRUCTIONS
You can pin out your finished daffodil using some stainless steel dress making pins by pinning down each petal point. You can then either lightly spray with water and allow to dry but if you want a stiffer finish, lightly spray with starch. Sew a brooch pin to the back to make a brooch. These also make a fabulous addition to a door wreath.
